Every environment migrating to Windows 7 will find a percentage of applications that will simply not work under Windows 7, but you don’t have to let them stand in your way. This offering familiarizes you with approaches for determining if applications are compatible with Windows 7 and shows you how to handle incompatibilities

Based on your needs, CompuCom can take responsibility for the entire migration process, or simply help you put a plan together, or do anything in between. Typically, Windows 7 migrations follow a natural flow from task to task:

• Most organizations start with some type of Hardware and Software Discovery process in order to put together a baseline inventory. The inventory process provides a set of data points that are needed for component and/or application rationalization.
• At the same time attention can be given to the Designing and Defining the Image. Once the core image is built it can be tested in a lab for validation.
• After the core applications have been selected and the core image is built, Application Testing can take place. Note: We find that as many as half the applications will need to be addressed in some way in order to operate correctly in Windows 7.

Next, the Remediation phase begins, where a number of proven techniques and best practices are leveraged to correct incompatibility issues discovered during the testing phase.

The last step in the process is to then automate the deployment, starting with a
controlled pilot and running through to a full production implementation.
